Flock Companion Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 23, 2026

This policy covers the Flock Companion iPhone, iPad and Android app provided by Flock. Questions or privacy requests: hello@flock-mfg.com.

Location and driving

When you connect and start a driving session, the app uses precise location to calculate GPS speed and send current readings to your Flock Gauge over local Wi-Fi. Driving updates may continue while the app is in the background or the phone is locked. Disconnect Wi-Fi in the app to end the session; Android also provides a Stop action in its driving notification. You can revoke location permission in your phone settings.

If an HTTPS road-data service is configured, the app sends a short recent trace of coordinates, timestamps and location accuracy to that service over cellular data to look up road limits. The app keeps this trace in memory during the session. The service operator receives the trace and your network IP address; its retention and privacy practices depend on the configured service. A road-data service is not configured by default in the current release configuration. Without one, live road limits are unavailable. Development builds may use a third-party OpenStreetMap-based test service; that fallback is disabled in store release builds.

Gauge connection

The app uses local-network or nearby Wi-Fi access to connect to the Flock Chirp network. The gauge receives current speed, available road limits, session messages and any display images you choose to send. Gauge Wi-Fi is an open local network; use it only with devices you trust. The app does not provide a private internet connection through the gauge.

Spotify

Spotify is optional and requires the Spotify app and an eligible Spotify account. With your authorization, Flock uses Spotify's SDK to read current playback information, including title, artist, artwork and playback position, and to control playback. Selected artwork and display information may be sent to your gauge. Flock does not ask for your Spotify password or upload Spotify authorization tokens to a Flock server. Spotify processes information under its own privacy policy. Disconnect Spotify in the app to stop access and clear the current playback display; you can also revoke Flock's access from your Spotify account's Apps page.

On-device storage and reports

The app stores preferences and diagnostic information locally. Diagnostic history is limited to the 14 most recent daily files, with each file capped at 8 MiB. Current app diagnostics do not save GPS coordinates, authorization tokens or raw road-service responses. Older iOS development diagnostics are removed when the updated logger initializes. Diagnostics include connection status, speed and accuracy, lookup results and connection timing. During a drive, a cellular connectivity check connects to an Apple host (captive.apple.com); the host can receive your IP address. The check sends no GPS trace.

Display benchmarks can produce reports stored on the device. Reports leave the app only when you choose to share them. A recipient or service you select then processes the report under its own practices. App diagnostic files are excluded from device backup. Delete the app (not merely offload it on iOS) to remove its local app data; copies you previously shared remain with their recipients.

Advertising, accounts and support

Flock Companion has no Flock account registration, advertisements, advertising tracking or embedded analytics service. Flock does not sell app location data. If you email support, we receive the address and information you send and use them to respond and troubleshoot. Do not send sensitive information that is not needed for your request. Email hello@flock-mfg.com to request access to or deletion of support information; necessary legal or transaction records may need to be retained.

Website and changes

This app policy is separate from the store website privacy policy, which covers shopping and website activity. The app is intended for adult vehicle owners and is not directed to children. We may update this policy as features or data practices change; the current version will be published here with its update date.
