2020–2023 Ford Explorer 3.3L 6-Cylinder Hybrid Gauge Setup
US-market 2020–2023 · 3.3L 6-Cylinder Hybrid
Choosing a connection for this Ford Explorer
For a stock US-market ECU, start by confirming standard engine data through the Flock OBD-II adapter. Check the ECU-supported channel list and compare a basic reading with a trusted scan tool. This is a setup planning guide, not a record of a vehicle-specific Flock hardware test or a guarantee of enhanced readings.

The cited EPA/DOE records below were checked for every model year in this guide, including displacement, cylinder count and the listed induction/hybrid type. These are representative certified configurations, not an exhaustive trim list or a compatibility certification. Match your engine, transmission, market and ECU before configuring the gauge.
Readings and limits for this setup
- Begin with coolant temperature and RPM only if this ECU reports them. Add intake-air temperature after checking it against a scan tool. Set warnings from the engine service information, rather than copying a universal threshold.
- Oil pressure and oil temperature are separate measurements. Keep the factory warning system working and use compatible independent sensors when ECU access to either value cannot be verified.
- Confirm the installed automatic transmission before investigating fluid temperature. A transmission-controller query is not interchangeable with an engine query.
- For hybrid operation, check the gauge’s hybrid setting and test engine-running, engine-stopped/READY and fully-off states. Enhanced battery channels need separate validation. Keep installation on documented low-voltage circuits; this guide requires no high-voltage battery work.
- A factory pressure warning switch or a current value in milliamps is not a continuous oil-pressure measurement. Never relabel those values as pressure.
- Manufacturer-specific oil, transmission and battery readings need the exact request, module address, session, response-byte positions, formula and units checked against released Flock firmware. A definition working on another model year or another scanner is not confirmation.
Mount, connect and verify
Mount near the driver rather than behind the center display and leave the vehicle’s drive-mode and climate controls accessible. Fit the mount from your normal seating position before fixing it in place.
- Identify the actual ECU, diagnostic protocol, tune and any engine or harness conversion. Confirm the connection path before buying an adapter.
- Follow the Flock user manual for power and connections. Keep wiring clear of pedals, steering joints, exhaust heat, airbags and sharp edges; leave the diagnostic socket accessible for servicing.
- Configure one verified channel at a time. Compare displayed units and readings with a trusted reference through a complete start, warm-up and shutdown cycle.
- For an independent sensor, confirm electrical range, calibration, engine-port thread, fittings and clearance. Retain factory warning devices and check for leaks. Set warnings from the applicable service information.
If a reading is missing
Return to a known working basic channel before changing a custom query. Record the ECU identity, diagnostic protocol, gauge and adapter firmware, request and raw response for support. Use a compatible independent sensor when dependable access to a required measurement cannot be established.
