Ignitron CAN Bus Setup for the Flock Gauge
CAN adapter status: October 9, 2026
The dedicated CANbus adapter for aftermarket ECUs is not yet available for sale. Final hardware testing is underway. The October 9 update expected availability before the end of 2026; this remains an estimate, not a confirmed release date.
This page is a setup reference for the forthcoming adapter. The current Flock OBD-II adapter reads available ECU data on supported stock CAN-bus vehicles. Compare OBD-II, wired sensors and aftermarket ECU CAN.
Documented presets and simulation checks do not establish a vehicle-tested compatibility list. Confirm the exact ECU model, firmware, output stream and required signals with Flock before buying for CAN use.
Connect an Ignitron ECU to your Flock gauge using the DashCAN v2 custom CAN transmit configuration. Download the Flock JSON below and load it through other in the gauge’s CAN setup.
Required settings: Ignitron firmware 1.25 or newer; 500 kbit/s; standard 11-bit CAN IDs. This configuration provides 12 readings. It has been checked against the published message definitions and tested with simulated CAN frames, but has not yet been tested on a physical Ignitron ECU.

Downloads
- For the gauge: canconfig-ignitron-dashcan-v2.json — upload this file in Flock settings.
- For the ECU: DashCAN_SEND_CUSTOM_CAN_MESSAGES_v2.icd — import this in the Ignitron application.
Download both files before joining the gauge’s WiFi. The gauge WiFi does not provide internet access. If your browser opens the JSON as text, save the linked file with its .json extension; do not save it as .txt. You do not need to rename the downloaded JSON before uploading it.
1. Connect the CAN hardware
You need a Flock CANbus adapter with its supplied gauge harness, an Ignitron ECU with the required sensors configured, and the Ignitron Windows application. Follow the shared CAN wiring and termination instructions.
With power off, connect Ignitron CAN High (ECU pin 60) to adapter CAN H and CAN Low (ECU pin 58) to adapter CAN L. Use the ECU wiring diagram to confirm connector orientation and provide a common ground. Connect the adapter to the gauge using its supplied harness. Keep the gauge powered through its normal power connector. ECU CAN H/L must connect through the adapter, not directly to the gauge expansion pins.
2. Configure Ignitron
- Back up the ECU calibration and existing custom CAN send settings.
- Confirm Ignitron firmware is 1.25 or newer and set the relevant CAN bus to 500 kbit/s. All devices on that bus must use the same speed.
- In the Ignitron application, enable Send custom CAN messages and import DashCAN_SEND_CUSTOM_CAN_MESSAGES_v2.icd in the corresponding custom send menu. Importing replaces the custom send configuration; review it before saving to the ECU.
- Confirm the imported configuration transmits five eight-byte messages at 0x600–0x604 every 50 ms, then save the settings to the ECU.
This JSON requires the linked v2 send file. The Ignitron default CAN stream and older bundled DashCAN send file use different layouts. The DashCAN receive file is not required for the Flock gauge, which only receives this stream. This guide uses direct CAN and does not require an OBD-II adapter.
3. Upload the JSON to the gauge
- Enter Settings Mode, join the WiFi network shown on the gauge, and scan its QR code. If needed, open http://192.168.4.1/settings.html. Stay connected if your phone reports no internet.
- Edit an available display slot and select sensor type CanBus.
- In the ECU picker, select other. There is no Ignitron tile.
- Choose Upload canconfig.json and select the downloaded canconfig-ignitron-dashcan-v2.json file.
- Tap Next, choose a signal such as EngineSpeed or CoolantTemp, set its label and available display options, and tap Save.
- Add further readings in the remaining display slots using the same CAN library. Return to the gauge display and follow any restart prompt.
Already using a CAN library? Use its Replace control in Settings, then choose other → Upload canconfig.json, select this file, tap Next and Save library. One CAN library is shared across all CAN display slots. Reassign any slots whose signal names no longer match.
If the CAN setup or upload controls are missing, follow Updating Your Gauge to update both firmware and the SD-card interface. Upload the JSON to the gauge and the ICD to the ECU; the files are not interchangeable.
Available readings
| Signal in Flock | Reading / unit |
|---|---|
| EngineSpeed | Engine speed, RPM |
| CoolantTemp | Coolant temperature, °C |
| MAP | Manifold absolute pressure, kPa |
| IAT | Intake air temperature, °C |
| EGT | Exhaust gas temperature, °C |
| OilPressure | Oil pressure, kPa |
| OilTemp | Oil temperature, °C |
| FuelPressure | Fuel pressure, kPa |
| Lambda1 | Lambda, not AFR |
| PedalPosition | Accelerator pedal position, % |
| VehicleSpeed | Vehicle speed, km/h |
| TPS | Throttle position, % |
The ECU must have each relevant sensor installed, enabled and calibrated. MAP is absolute pressure, not boost above atmosphere. Use the units shown here when checking values and setting warnings; do not assume general gauge unit preferences convert custom CAN readings.
4. Check the readings
With the vehicle stationary, compare RPM, coolant temperature and throttle position with the Ignitron application, then check the other available sensors. Account for display rounding. Confirm each value and its units before relying on it or setting warning thresholds.
Troubleshooting
- All readings missing, zero or frozen: check ECU power, the v2 custom send option and saved configuration, 500 kbit/s bus speed, CAN H/L polarity, common ground, adapter harness and termination. A zero value alone does not confirm communication.
- One reading missing: check that the sensor is configured in Ignitron and the display slot uses a signal in this library.
- Wrong values: confirm the exact v2 send file, message IDs and units. The older DashCAN file and default Ignitron stream are not interchangeable with this configuration.
- Other slots stopped after upload: select their signals again from the replacement library.
Battery voltage, ignition advance, fuel trims, torque, knock, gear and power are not included in this JSON.
